It is no secret that Malayalam superstar Mammootty will play Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, the most powerful chief minister of his time.It was quite a surprise that director Mahi V Raghav approached a Malayalam star to play the part of a popular Telugu politician.To portray YSR’s role, Nagarjuna would have been the best choice in Telugu given that Nag shared a special bonding with him.
In fact, Mahi V Raghav narrated the script to Nagarjuna when he decided to do a film on YSR and it is said that the Akkineni hero was floored by the idea.Insiders say Nag asked him to wait till the 2019 general elections get over to start the film. He didn’t want to do the movie before the elections because he feared he would land in political controversy.However Mahi V Raghav wanted to release it before the general elections. Hence he approached Mammootty and persuaded him to say yes.
“We needed someone who can get in that aura of a leader who we can look up to. Mammootty fits the bill perfectly,” Mahi says.
