Some films that haven’t done well in theatres in recent times have appeared on Amazon Prime within just one month after release. From NTR Kathanayakudu to Vinaya Vidheya Rama, that is the actual scene. And that is not going well with producers and distributors.
While film lovers who don’t want to spend their 200 bucks on a flop film are so happy with this, Telugu producers and distributors feel that if a film comes up so early on digital streaming, then the chances to squeeze the maximum out of a flop film at the box office are going down. So what to do?
Other day Telugu Fim Producers Council has taken the decision of allowing a film to be streamed on Amazon Prime or any other digital streaming platform to that matter, only after 8 weeks after the films’ release. That means, even for a flop film, the waiting time is two months for audiences to catch up on the film on their smart TVs and mobile phones. That way, distributors are likely to get some more money at the box office as many audiences won’t wait for two months to watch a film even if it is a flop.
However audiences are asking, ‘why blame Amazon Prime or any other digital streaming partner when your content can’t bring audiences to theatres?’.
