In a ghastly attack, a bus carrying 16 police personnel including its driver was exploded with an IED explosion in Maharashtra. A landmine blast was triggered by maoists while bus was passing through the forested Gadchiroli area in Maharashtra, where Maoists have stronghold in the region.
The inhuman and violent incident took place just hours after Maoists burnt 25 vehicles at a road construction site in Kurkheda of Gadchiroli district in the wee hours i.e around 3:30 am. They torched the vehicles, which were parked along the road, using kerosene and diesel.
The Maoist attack which killed 16 police personnel took place today coinciding with Maharashtra foundation day. At the same time, the Maoists were observing a week-long protest to mark the first anniversary of 40 of their members who were gunned down by security forces on April 22 last year. This bus blast is seen as a vengence by Maos.
Gadchiroli voted in the first phase of national election on April 11. An IED blast exploded near a polling station in Gadchiroli on April 11th, the voting day. However, fortunately, no one was injured. A day before that a CRPF personnel was severely injured in an IED blast at Gadchiroli. Maos seems to have planned back-to-back IED blasts and range of violent activities in the regions where they have stronghold.
On April 9th, 5 people including a BJP MLA and 4 security personnel were killed in an IED blast by Maos in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district.
Responding to the bus blast killing 16 police commandos, Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed the attack “despicable” and said that the “perpetrators of such violence will not be spared”.
