Maharshi USA Collections: Is This The New Trend?

One of the undisputed kings of USA territory for Telugu films is Mahesh Babu who has nearly 9 of his films that made to 1 Million Dollars club. However, his latest film Maharshi is not taking a serious upward dive to make sure that it collects the needed 4 Million to paddle US distributor to safe shore.

What is worrying trade pundits is that, when a super shot disaster like Agnyaathavasi is able to break into 2 Million Dollars club easily, how come Maharshi is being slow? Some trade analysts are indicating that this is actually indicating a new and latest trend of the overseas Telugu films market.

Gone are the days where fans of these superstars in the USA should either go to theatres or watch a piracy print. Basing on reviews and the nearby theatre availability, Telugu cinema lovers in the USA used to take a call. But now, no matter whether a film is hit or not, if it could not create that interest for them, they are not going to theatres. Firstly there is no stuff like MoviePass or discounts happening right now, tickets are priced at a high. Secondly, they could catch it on Amazon Prime in a month or so.

Also watching a film on Amazon Prime on a giant home screen with a gang of friends gives a similar kick of watching a film in theatres when you’re living abroad. So the USA based Telugu cinema lovers is said to be enjoying such stuff now rather coming to theatres. Perhaps that is the reason for films like Majili, Jersey and recent release Maharshi going slow at the USA box office.
