With Andhra Pradesh state government decided to go ahead and abolish the Legislative Council, the ball is now in the court of the Centre over the deadlock on 3 Capitals for AP. All eyes are now at the BJP-led Central Government.
Now, BJP is caught in big confusion over the fast political developments in Andhra Pradesh. On one side it can’t support YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his bold decisions and on the other side it either can’t support its former aide and present rival Chandrababu Naidu. The moot question on everyone’s lips is whether the Centre would immediately give its nod for the dissolution of AP Legislative Council or not.
The state unit of BJP and its key ally Pawan Kalyan are strongly opposing Jagan’s proposal of 3 capitals. This is in tune with TDP’s decision to stand with Amaravati farmers.
On the other hand, CM Jagan has been consistently supporting BJP at the Centre level. Even in the CAA, Jagan’s YCP has supported the Centre. Considering all these, Jagan is firmly believing that the Centre would reciprocate and standby him over Council dissolution and the Select Committee with which two crucial bills – passing of AP Decentralization and Inclusive Development of All Regions Bill, 2020 and shelving of AP Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) Act, 2014 – are stuck.
At this juncture, BJP too seems divided. A section of senior leaders want the Centre to go with the state unit’s decision and another section of leaders in BJP want the Centre to support Jagan. This is now creating a lot of confusion in BJP. The buck stops at Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
