Cry, India Cry! Nirbhaya’s four convicts hanging has once again postponed. The hanging has now become bleak. The situation and justice turned hopeless. In fact, the lawyer of the four death-row convicts daringly challenged Nirbhaya’s mother, Asha Devi, that the convicts will “never be executed”. It is unfortunate that India is having lawyers to support rapists and to much surprise, challenging innocents on terms on barbarism.
“The convict’s lawyer challenged me and said that the hanging will never happen,” the mother of the 2012 Delhi gang rape told. Seven years and upward, it is a shame to learn that the execution delayed until further notice and Delhi court stayed the hanging. On this, Asha Devi said that “I will continue my fight. The government will have to execute the convict”. While getting emotional, Asha Devi questioned why shouldn’t her daughter’s rapists be hanged? “The government has failed us,” she quoted.
The judge has today noted that the prison rules clearly state – “The execution of the sentence shall be postponed in the case of co-convicts also if an appeal is filed by one convict. “Without commenting on the dilatory tactics adopted by the convicts, suffice it would be to state that seeking redressal of one’s grievances through the procedure established by law is the hallmark of any civilised society. The courts of this country cannot afford to adversely discriminate any convict, including death row convict, in pursuit of his legal remedies, by turning Nelson’s eye towards him” noted the court.
