CNBC Trust Survey: People Vote For Modi, Naidu & KCR

Firstpost-IPSOS has carried out a pan-India survey to understand the trust levels in people and gauge their mood with just three days left for the first phase of elections to begin. The CNBC survey covers 62 socio-cultural regions across 329 districts and 344 parliamentary constituencies in India. They survey also revealed individual leaders’ acceptance among people in their respective states.

The survey interestingly revealed that the entire South Indian population, except for Karnataka, has faith in regional parties. Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala along with Odisha and West Bengal people trust these regional parties rather than national parties, the survey revealed. The Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana Rashtra Samithi in Telangana, Left Front in Kerala, DMK in Tamil Nadu, Biju Janata Dal in Odisha and Trinamool Congress in West Bengal have people’s trust, it added.

A report on individual leaders revealed that AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s acceptance and trust is better than his Telangana counterpart, K. Chandrasekhar Rao. Meanwhile, trust factor among people on TDP in Andhra Pradesh is 50.1% while that of TRS in Telangana people is 66%, the survey revealed.

The survey also revealed that people’s top pick for the PM post across the country is Narendra Modi and they believe that BJP can solve India’s problems better than the Congress. They believe BJP is India’s answer for economic development and nearly most of the respondents from major states in the Hindi Heartland BJP where the BJP is dominant, say they trust the saffron party while Congress is most trusted party in Punjab, Assam and Meghalaya.

Despite having different political affiliations, majority of respondents feel Modi is the right PM candidate for India. Interestingly, except for Telangana and Karnataka whose acceptance level of Modi as PM exceeds 60%, rest of the Southern states have rated Narendra Modi’s performance as the Prime Minister below 40%.
