2019 has been a mixed bag for Telugu cinema in its first six months. There are some notable hits and highly forgettable duds among the movies that released in the first half of the year.
Maharshi turned out to be the highest grossing Telugu film so far in 2019 and F2 is the biggest commercial hit among the movies that came out in first six months.
But there are some memorable films that came out in the first half.
Jersey directed by Gautham Tinnanuri is arguably the best film of the year thus far and it has set the bar high for upcoming movies in the second half. Beautifully portrayed emotions and Nani’s unmatchable performance has made Jersey an immortal film. It is not only a successful film for its investors but also a film that they would be proud of.
Majili is another film that has its heart in right place. Shiva Nirvana has penned a beautiful love story around the on and off-screen chemistry of Naga Chaitanya and Samantha that worked wonders at the box office. The film’s third act might have seemed silly, but it is definitely one of the well-made movies of the year.
Despite being a political film Yatra directed by Mahi P. Raghav had well depicted emotions that have won acclaim for the film. It is not a commercial success but will rank up there amongst the well-made movies of the year. The way Mammootty portrayed the role of YSR was a treat to watch.
Agent Sai Srinivasa Atreya proved that content is the king and reaffirmed that hard work never fails. The movie was a successful one on the writing table itself and all that Swaroop RSJ had to do is to make sure that the execution doesn’t go awry. It has brought a talent like Naveen Polisetty into the limelight.
Brochevarevarura is another example for good writing. Director Vivek Atreya’s job was half done in the scripting stage itself and he got a talented star cast on board to do the rest. The film is going from strength to strength at the ticket windows as the word of mouth is getting better by the day.
