Kaleshwaram Launch: Rs 1.66 Crore Gifts to VIPs

In a shocking report, it is revealed that the Telangana state government has splurged a whopping Rs 1.66 Crore public money for the gifts to the VIP guests who attended the grand inauguration ceremony of Kaleshwaram Irrigation Project on June 21st this year.

It is learnt that the state government had earlier ordered to make Special Mementos for the VIP guests. Of which 12 were in the shape of Veena and others were made in the shape of Peacock, Charminar and Kakatiya Kala Thoranam of Warangal. All the mementos were silver filigree costing Rs 1,66,86,000.

As per the directions from the OSD in the Chief Minister’s Office and Department of protocol, the order was placed by Karimnagar district collector. The General Administration Department had issued a GO on August 20 for the same and stated the total cost as Rs 1.66 Crore. The GO issued has sanctioned Rs 83.43 lakh i.e 50 percent of the total cost.

Kaleshwaram project is one of the most expensive irrigation project by a state government and its overall cost is pegged at staggering Rs 80,000 Crore. Even several intellectuals like Jayaprakash Narayan and others have questioned the huge cost of project and the value of its return. But CM KCR has shot back at all of them who questioned the Kaleshwaram project stating that those who questioning don’t know the value of the project and the benefits farmers of the state going to get.
