At 22 years of age, Uppalapati Prabhas Raju tried his luck in films and went to auditions before getting selected as a hero in Jayanth C Paranji’s Eeswar movie. Touted to be a simple 70-lakh budgeted film, the producer invested extra money as Prabhas is very good in action sequences, finally bringing it to a 1.5 crore movie.
That movie has majorly got the release over the craze Jayanth had as a director and RP Patnaik’s super hit form as a composer. After the release, Prabhas, however, got an identity and went on to do a mass film like Raghavendra, romantic drama like Varsham and finally did Chatrapathi in 2005. Later, films ran on Prabhas name and his mere presence brought big openings.
After 17 years, it has come to a situation where Prabhas’ name alone would do an almost 550 crores business. As the producers spent almost 300 crores to carve out Saaho, the film made 500+ crores business through various channels. This rise of Prabhas should be attributed to his good heart, dedication and ability to carry a film on his shoulder even if scripts are bit weak.
All other present generation’s stars also started around the same time and are making a mark. But by the time those starts started ruling Tollywood, Prabhas is still taking baby steps, but thanks to his hard work that today he became a pan India star that others cannot reach so easily.
