We have seen a lot of heroes turning into producers for their own films or low budget films. But not many heroines take the risk of becoming a producer because they don’t have a lot of connections in the industry and the losses will be unbearable if the film fails. Kajal Agarwal turned producer and bankrolled a movie that is yet to get released. There are a few Bollywood heroines who ventured into production but it is quite rare in the South.
Samantha is now taking a calculated risk by becoming a producer but she teamed up with another star actress. She is going to start a joint venture with Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma who produced films like ‘Phillauri’, ‘NH 10’ and the web series ‘Pataal Lok’. As we know, she is the wife of Indian star cricketer and ex-captain Virat Kohli. The discussions between Samantha and Anushka Sharma happened a couple of times in Mumbai.
Samantha will be playing the lead role in this female-centric film and the makers are yet to decide whether to make it as a pan-Indian film or a web series. Anushka’s brother Karnesh Sharma is going to be launched as a director with this movie and the details about the rest of the cast and technicians will be coming out soon. Sources say that both the heroines decided to invest a total of 25 crores on this project. Samantha gained a lot of popularity in the North with ‘Family Man 2’ and ‘Oo Antava Oo Oo Antava’ song.
She is currently the female lead in the Indian version of ‘Citadel’. This series is being made in Hindi by Raj & DK. Varun Dhawan is the hero. Priyanka Chopra did the role in the English version which is streaming on Amazon Prime Video now. Sam’s last outing ‘Shaakunthalam’ ended up as a huge debacle and Anushka Sharma has not acted since ‘Zero’. She is all set to return with cricketer Jhulan Goswami’s biopic.
