The birth of a girl child has mostly been considered a curse, rejected or unwanted in a few parts of India even today. Actress Sameera Reddy who gave birth to her beautiful daughter, Nyra, raised the sensitive topic of a girl child being considered a burden.
The actress shared a picture of her holding her daughter Nyra, with gorgeous smiles. She also wrote a heart-warming note – “To have a Lil girl is such joy! Can’t even understand how In our country the girl child was considered a burden!! I say ‘was’ because I hope that mindset has really changed. I still hear how in big urban families they prefer the firstborn to be a boy but I can tell you as one of three girls in my family we have achieved more than any boy could have! #girlpower #equal #girlchild #proud #babygirl #india #momlife.”
Her followers on Instagram agreed to her point and wrote comments positively for her post. Netizens have shown empathy towards the problem and said India should change drastically in the mindset. Sameera, who always voiced her opinions like on Bollywood’s favouritism in choosing actors, pregnancy health issues and on body shaming, has now spoken out on a new and important subject of how children, irrespective of their gender, should be treated equally with love.
Not only Sameera but one must also realize that the desire for having a male child has created 21 million “unwanted” girls in India in the latest survey. The nation must certainly confront the societal preference for male offspring.
