The ongoing war between Andhra Pradesh state government and the Election Commission has escalated. A day after CM Chandrababu Naidu shot off a letter to the EC over the alleged abrupt transfers of senior IPS officials including Director General (Intelligence) who monitors CM’s security and the SPs of Kadapa and Srikakulam, now SPs of Srikakulam (Venkata Ratnam) and Kadapa (Rahul Dev Sharma) have sought ‘justice’. Both the SPs have asked the EC to prove what mistake they had done and why they have been transferred.
The Superintendents of Police have also filed cases against YSRCP for making “false” allegations. Kadapa SP Rahul Dev Sarma said he is also planning to file a defamation suit against YCP’s Vijay Sai Reddy. They demanded the EC to respond to prove their mistake within 24 hours as quickly as how it reacted to YCP’s allegation. Since action has been taken within less than 24 hours after YSRCP met the EC and made its allegation, Kadapa SP is expecting the EC to react in same manner for his demand to do a proper inquiry in the matter and prove if we have done any mistake. He has written a harsh letter to the EC. In his letter, he questioned how the EC arrived at conclusion without even inquiring into the matter.
On the other hand, the High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad for AP is going to hear the case filed by AP state government against EC’s decision. Both the EC and AP state government are expected to voice out their versions in the court hearing.
Meanwhile, the AP state government has taken a bold decision by cancelling the transfer order of Intelligence DG directed by the EC. Chief Secretary Anil Chandra Punetha has issued an order to cancel the transfer order of DG, Intelligence. The Chief Secretary also issued a separate order to exclude Director General, Intelligence and other officials not related to election duty from the purview of the Election Commission. As per this order, the government has designated police officers under Section 28-A of the Representation of People Act, 1951 for the purpose of law and order and other duties related to the conduct of elections. It listed police personnel from constable to the Director General of Police.
With this, the war between the EC and AP state government turned interesting and catching national attention.
