Why is Modi afraid of facing the media: Manmohan Singh

Taking potshots at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being apprehensive of facing the media, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh broke his silence and criticised the PM for refraining from commenting on contentious issues. Amid Rafale scam plaguing the Modi government, Manmohan Singh made these statements during the launch of his book “Changing India.”

Rubbishing claims that he was the silent PM, Manmohan said that he faced the press and answered journalists’ questions after every foreign trip. “I wasn’t scared of facing the media like Prime Minister Modi. He hasn’t faced the press ever since he took over as PM in 2014,” he added.

Earlier, even Rahul Gandhi took a jibe at Prime Minister Modi stating that he should face the media. “It is fun when questions are thrown at you,” he had said.

The voices questioning Prime Minister’s silence over not commenting on several crucial issues concerning the country are growing against the current BJP government. Terming the resignation of former RBI Governor Urijit Patel as a severe blow to the government, he said that the public institutions are threatened under the current government.
