Nag Ashwin on Sing Geetham Journey
Following the unanimous critical acclaim received by Sing Geetham, producer Nag Ashwin and executive director Sankalp Gora opened up about the film’s creative journey, collaboration, and the importance of mentorship in a candid conversation with Gulte Pro’s Ram Venkat Srikar.
Nag Ashwin revealed that the team spent nearly eight to nine months developing the script, with the process involving extensive discussions and brainstorming sessions. He described it as an intense and highly collaborative experience, with legendary filmmaker Singeetham Srinivasa Rao actively participating in daily Zoom meetings and contributing to the development of every scene.
The filmmaker also spoke about trusting instinct over experience while assembling the team. According to Nag Ashwin, many members involved in the project were first-timers, and he preferred their fresh outlook and unconventional ideas. He believes that the energy and unpredictability brought by new voices helped shape the film’s unique identity.
Sankalp Gora, who served as the executive director, recalled reconnecting with the team after several years and initially joining the project as part of the direction department. Over time, his responsibilities expanded, and he described the opportunity as a dream come true, admitting that he never imagined being associated with a project of such scale and ambition.
He further revealed that the script continued to evolve throughout the production process. After every shooting schedule, the team revisited scenes, dialogues, and even musical segments, constantly refining them to ensure the emotional impact and clarity of the narrative remained intact.
One of the most notable moments from the interaction was Nag Ashwin’s gesture of allowing Sankalp Gora to share much of the behind-the-scenes journey himself. Rather than taking full credit, the acclaimed filmmaker ensured that Sankalp’s contributions and experiences received due recognition, reflecting the collaborative spirit that played a key role in bringing Sing Geetham to life.
