Kriti Sanon, who started her journey as a model before becoming one of Bollywood’s leading actresses, recently spoke openly about the gender pay disparity that still exists in the film industry.

Apart from establishing herself as a successful actress, Kriti has also stepped into film production in recent years. Despite achieving major success, including winning a National Award, the actress revealed that female performers often face unfair treatment when it comes to remuneration negotiations.

Speaking about her experiences, Kriti said that whenever producers look to reduce a film’s budget, it is usually the actress’s salary that gets negotiated first, even though a major portion of the budget is often allocated to male stars.

She also pointed out how deeply rooted patriarchy continues to be within the industry. Recalling one particular incident, Kriti mentioned that a male co-star who was not necessarily senior or more accomplished was provided with better facilities, including a superior car arrangement.

The actress clarified that the issue was never about luxury or material benefits, but about basic equality and fair treatment. According to her, such incidents reflect the larger imbalance that female actors still encounter despite their success and contribution to films.

Kriti’s comments have once again sparked discussion about pay parity in Indian cinema, especially in Bollywood, where actresses are often believed to be the first to face budget-related pay cuts during film negotiations.

Her statements are now receiving support from many fans and industry observers who feel the conversation around equal treatment and remuneration in cinema remains highly relevant even today.
