RGV vs FWICE: Fresh War Erupts After Ranveer Ban Lifted

Bollywood star Ranveer Singh has finally received a major relief after the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) withdrew its non-cooperation directive against him. The action had reportedly been initiated following controversies surrounding his association with director Farhan Akhtar’s much-anticipated film Don 3. The issue had sparked widespread debate within the film industry, and the latest decision appears to have cleared the cloud of uncertainty surrounding the actor.

The controversy took a new turn when filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) strongly criticized FWICE on social media platform X. Coming out in support of Ranveer Singh, Varma argued that it was not the actor who deserved to be banned, but rather the federation itself. He stated that stars like Ranveer generate employment for lakhs of film workers, whereas organizations such as FWICE merely claim to represent their interests.

Varma went a step further by describing the federation as a “kangaroo court,” alleging that its actions were more about displaying authority than genuinely safeguarding the welfare of workers. His comments quickly went viral, drawing sharp reactions from various sections of the film fraternity.

FWICE, however, did not take the criticism lightly. Senior federation member Ashoke Pandit issued a strong response, defending the organization’s credibility and accusing Varma of making irresponsible statements. He asserted that FWICE is a responsible body committed to protecting the interests of film workers and not an organization that operates through intimidation.

Pandit also demanded an immediate apology from Varma for his remarks. In addition, he revived an old controversy involving the filmmaker, alleging that Varma still owes more than ₹1 crore to film technicians. According to Pandit, the dispute dates back to 2017, and Varma had reportedly written to the federation seeking time until March 2019 to clear the dues. He claimed that despite the assurances, the payments remain unsettled, making Varma’s criticism of the federation inappropriate.

While the withdrawal of the ban on Ranveer Singh appears to have brought closure to one aspect of the controversy, the larger debate remains unresolved. The episode has once again highlighted the delicate balance between the influence of star actors and the authority of workers’ unions in the entertainment industry.

The focus now shifts to Ram Gopal Varma. Whether he chooses to refute the allegations regarding the pending dues or offers an explanation remains to be seen. His response could determine the next chapter in what has become yet another high-profile industry controversy.
