Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ Shocks Industry as Theatrical Deals Reportedly Cancelled

In an unexpected development, actor-politician Vijay has reportedly instructed KVN Productions to cancel all existing theatrical agreements for Jana Nayagan. According to Tamil media reports, distributors who had already acquired the theatrical rights will now be issued full refunds.
The decision comes amid a prolonged delay in the film’s release. Jana Nayagan has reportedly been stuck in post-production and certification-related hurdles for the past five months, with CBFC-related issues said to be contributing to the uncertainty surrounding its theatrical rollout. As a result, the makers are now said to be revisiting their entire release strategy.
Industry sources note that it is extremely rare for a major star film to withdraw theatrical agreements after deals have already been finalized. The move is expected to have a significant financial impact on producer Venkat R. Narayan of KVN Productions, who may now have to refund hundreds of crores to distributors across multiple territories. Such a large-scale reversal is considered unprecedented in the South Indian film industry.
Despite the setback, Vijay is reportedly confident about the film’s prospects. He is believed to be strongly optimistic that Jana Nayagan will emerge as a major blockbuster upon release. This confidence is said to have encouraged the production team to take the unusual step of stepping back from pre-sold theatrical rights and instead betting on the film’s long-term box office performance.
