Despite enjoying a strong run at the box office, Ram Charan’s Peddi has found itself at the center of a growing social media debate over the portrayal of its female lead, Janhvi Kapoor. While audiences have praised the film’s scale, performances, and emotional narrative, criticism has emerged regarding the characterization of Achiyyamma, played by Janhvi Kapoor.

Much of the discussion has focused on the romantic track between Achiyyamma and Peddi, portrayed by Ram Charan. Several viewers have argued that the character was not given sufficient depth and that certain scenes placed excessive emphasis on her appearance rather than her role in the story.

Addressing the criticism, director Buchi Babu Sana admitted that he did not anticipate such a strong reaction from audiences. Speaking to the media, the filmmaker said the team’s intention was to present a light-hearted and playful romance rather than create discomfort among viewers.

“I never expected those scenes to be perceived so negatively. Our intention was to showcase a fun and engaging love story between the lead characters,” Buchi Babu explained.

The director also acknowledged the feedback and stated that the team would take such concerns into account in future projects. He emphasized the importance of evolving with audience expectations and creating more balanced representations on screen.

The controversy began shortly after the film’s release, with some viewers expressing concerns over the visual treatment of Achiyyamma’s character. Critics felt that certain scenes focused more on glamour than character development, while others questioned whether the narrative adequately addressed themes of consent and personal boundaries.

Many also argued that Achiyyamma’s emotional journey was overshadowed by the larger narrative surrounding the male characters. As a result, what was intended to be a romantic subplot has become one of the most discussed aspects of the film.

Set against the backdrop of rural Andhra Pradesh, Peddi follows the inspiring journey of a talented athlete who strives to bring pride and recognition to his village through sports. The film explores themes of ambition, identity, community, and perseverance.

Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, the sports drama also stars Shiva Rajkumar and Jagapathi Babu in pivotal roles. Produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru under Vriddhi Cinemas and presented by Mythri Movie Makers and Sukumar Writings, the film continues to perform strongly in theatres.

While Peddi remains a commercial success, the conversation surrounding Janhvi Kapoor’s character has emerged as one of the film’s biggest talking points, sparking wider discussions about the portrayal of female characters in mainstream cinema.
