₹1400 Crore Desert Warrior Becomes Massive Box Office Disaster

Saudi Arabia’s ambitious historical epic Desert Warrior has turned into one of the most shocking box-office failures in recent cinema history. Made on a massive reported budget of nearly ₹1400 crore ($150 million), the film has managed to earn only around ₹6 crore worldwide, making it a staggering commercial disaster.

Directed by Rupert Wyatt and starring Anthony Mackie and Ben Kingsley, the project was envisioned as Saudi Arabia’s grand entry into large-scale Hollywood-style filmmaking. Backed by Saudi-funded studios, the film was heavily promoted as a landmark production showcasing the kingdom’s expanding ambitions in global entertainment.

However, the film failed to connect with audiences or critics. Reviews pointed out weak storytelling, a confusing screenplay, and a lack of emotional depth. Even with a wide release across more than 1,000 theaters in North America, the film saw a dismal response, reportedly averaging less than $500 per screen.

Production delays, creative disagreements, and ineffective marketing further worsened its prospects. Industry observers now view Desert Warrior as a reminder that massive budgets and big names do not guarantee success at the box office.

Instead of marking a breakthrough moment for Saudi cinema, the film has become a high-profile example of a costly misfire in modern filmmaking.
