Just days after taking oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Joseph Vijay has made a decision that has quickly grabbed the attention of the Tamil film industry.

The newly formed government has reportedly granted special permission for 9 AM screenings of Karuppu, the upcoming action drama starring Suriya and Trisha Krishnan. Directed by RJ Balaji, the film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on May 14.

The makers officially shared the update on social media along with a picture of Vijay working from the Chief Minister’s office. The post thanked him for approving the special early-morning screenings, confirming that the film’s first shows would begin at 9 AM from release day onward.

While early morning fan shows are common in several states across India, theatres in Tamil Nadu have largely avoided such screenings in recent years due to concerns over crowd control and fan celebrations during major star releases. The permission for Karuppu has therefore sparked significant discussion within trade and fan circles.

Karuppu features an ensemble cast that includes Indrans, Natty, Swasika, Sshivada, Anagha Maya Ravi and Supreeth Reddy in key roles alongside Suriya and Trisha. The film’s music has been composed by Sai Abhyankkar.

Meanwhile, Vijay and Trisha continue to remain one of Tamil cinema’s most loved on-screen pairs. Over the years, they have shared screen space in several successful films, including Ghilli, Thirupaachi, Aathi, Kuruvi and Leo.

Their friendship has frequently become a topic of discussion on social media, especially after Trisha attended Vijay’s swearing-in ceremony. However, both Vijay and Trisha have chosen not to publicly respond to ongoing speculation surrounding their personal relationship. Despite that, online conversations linking the two continue to generate attention, with even some political voices referencing the rumours while targeting Vijay politically.
