Dulquer Salmaan’s Tollywood Rise

In recent times, pan-India cinema has opened new doors for actors, allowing them to expand their market beyond language barriers. Many stars who initially built their careers in regional industries are now aiming for global recognition through Telugu cinema in particular. Amid this trend, Malayalam star Dulquer Salmaan has emerged as one of the most prominent actors successfully establishing a strong presence in Tollywood.
Born to legendary Malayalam superstar Mammootty, Dulquer Salmaan made his Telugu debut with Mahanati (2018), directed by Nag Ashwin. In the film, he portrayed Gemini Ganesan and impressed audiences with his refined performance. He later made his full-fledged Telugu hero debut with Sita Ramam, directed by Hanu Raghavapudi, which turned out to be a massive success and further strengthened his popularity among Telugu audiences. He continued his successful run with Lucky Bhaskar in 2024, adding another hit to his career in Telugu cinema.
Currently, Dulquer Salmaan is working on a project tentatively titled DQ 41. The film features Pooja Hegde as the female lead and is directed by debutant Ravi Nelakuditi. Produced by Sudhakar Cherukuri under the Sri Lakshmi Venkateswara Cinemas banner, the film is being made as a multi-lingual romantic drama. Music for the project is composed by GV Prakash Kumar, and it is planned for a pan-India release in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.
Interestingly, even before completing this project, Dulquer has reportedly signed two more Telugu films. One is said to be directed by Court fame Ram Jagadeesh under the Wall Poster Cinema banner, co-founded by Nani and costume designer-turned-producer S. Prashanti Tipirneni. The second project is also expected to be made under the same banner with another director from Dandora fame.
With back-to-back Telugu projects in hand, discussions have started on social media about whether Dulquer Salmaan is gradually shifting his focus from Malayalam cinema to Tollywood. However, official confirmations regarding these reports are still awaited. Nevertheless, his growing lineup in Telugu cinema clearly reflects his strong acceptance and rising demand in the industry.
