Ali Soap Ad Controversy Sparks Backlash, Issues Apology

Veteran comedian Ali has found himself at the center of a controversy following his appearance in an advertisement for a soap brand called “Ghar.” The commercial has sparked backlash on social media, with several users alleging that it hurt Hindu religious sentiments, particularly those associated with Goddess Lakshmi.
The controversy began after viewers claimed that the advertisement depicted Ali performing a style of worship toward the soap product, which some felt resembled traditional prayers offered to Goddess Lakshmi. The issue escalated further when the ad reportedly used a musical segment linked to devotional references from the film Devudu Chesina Manushulu, intensifying criticism online.
Following the backlash, many social media users questioned the decision to incorporate religious elements in a commercial context and argued that a senior actor like Ali should have been more cautious. Calls were also made by some users demanding that the advertisement be taken down.
In response to the growing criticism, Ali released an apology video clarifying his position. He stated that the contested portion of the ad was inspired by a brief musical reference from Devudu Chesina Manushulu and was included at the request of the Mumbai-based advertising agency.
Ali further explained that once he became aware of the concerns and was informed that the content had offended religious sentiments, he immediately contacted the company and requested the removal of the advertisement. He also confirmed that the commercial has since been taken down.
In his apology, Ali expressed regret if the advertisement had unintentionally hurt anyone’s sentiments and offered a sincere apology “from the bottom of his heart.” He emphasized that there was no intention to disrespect any religion or deity.
