Tamannaah Bhatia Opens Up on Bollywood vs South Cinema Differences

Tamannaah Bhatia has shared her candid views on the differences between Bollywood and the South Indian film industry, highlighting the challenges women often face in cinema. With extensive experience across Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu films, she said working in multiple industries has given her a broader understanding of how female actors are perceived and represented.
According to Tamannaah, Bollywood tends to offer space for a wider range of female performers, where actresses can explore both performance-oriented roles and commercially glamorous characters while maintaining balanced careers.
In contrast, she noted that the South Indian film industry often reflects a more patriarchal environment, where women may sometimes encounter an uncomfortable and less respectful gaze.
Tamannaah also spoke about the terminology used for dance performances, expressing her dislike for the term “item song.” She explained that such labels tend to objectify performers rather than acknowledge their artistic contribution. She emphasized that she chooses such performances on her own terms and prefers to view them as entertainment-driven acts rather than roles defined by restrictive labels.
Her remarks add to the ongoing discussion about gender representation in Indian cinema. By speaking openly about these issues, Tamannaah has once again brought attention to the need for more respectful portrayal of women and more inclusive working environments across film industries.
