Drishyam 3 Review: Falls Short of the Original’s Thrill and Impact

Drishyam 3 attempts to expand the much-loved franchise by introducing a new mystery centered around who is now targeting Georgekutty’s family. The premise initially sounds intriguing, but director Jeethu Joseph struggles to recreate the sharp writing and tightly woven screenplay that made the earlier films so impactful.

Unlike the previous installments where Georgekutty was fully aware of his enemies and meticulously outsmarted them at every step, this time he is placed in a situation where he senses danger without knowing its source. While this setup raises expectations for another intelligent, edge-of-the-seat thriller, the execution does not fully deliver on that promise.

The first half of the film moves at a sluggish pace, with several moments that appear important but ultimately fail to lead to strong payoffs. Many of the twists feel predictable or forced rather than naturally unfolding from the narrative, which reduces the overall tension.

That said, the emotional bond audiences share with Mohanlal as Georgekutty and his family continues to work in the film’s favour. The final 30–40 minutes manage to generate some applause-worthy moments, but they are driven more by franchise goodwill than by genuinely shocking or innovative storytelling.

Overall, Drishyam 3 remains a watchable thriller with a few engaging sequences, particularly in the second half, but it falls short of the brilliance and intensity of its predecessors. Loyal fans may still find value in revisiting Georgekutty’s world, though expectations need to be tempered.

The ending also hints at a possible fourth installment, leaving hope that the franchise could return with a stronger and more gripping chapter in the future.
