Franchises and sequels have become the order of the day in Indian cinema. Whenever a big-ticket film succeeds at the box office, a follow-up installment is almost inevitable. Against this backdrop, fans have been eagerly waiting for Devara 2, the sequel to Jr NTR and Koratala Siva’s blockbuster collaboration. However, recent developments have raised questions about whether the much-awaited project will go on floors anytime soon.

On the occasion of director Koratala Siva’s birthday on June 15, NTR fans expected an exciting update regarding Devara 2. Surprisingly, there was complete silence from the makers. Even Jr NTR, while wishing Koratala Siva on social media, extended his best wishes only for the director’s future ventures and made no mention of their upcoming sequel. This unexpected omission has left many fans wondering about the status of the project.

According to trade circles, the biggest hurdle is Jr NTR’s packed schedule. The actor is currently busy shooting for Prashanth Neel’s highly anticipated action drama Dragon, a project that is expected to occupy him for nearly a year. Following that, films with Trivikram Srinivas and other leading directors are also lined up, making it difficult for him to allocate time for Devara 2 in the near future. Sources also suggest that NTR is being extremely cautious about the script, which could further delay the project.

Meanwhile, Koratala Siva has moved on to his next assignment instead of waiting indefinitely for the sequel. The director has reportedly locked a massive action entertainer with Nandamuri Balakrishna, tentatively titled NBK112. With the Balakrishna project likely to take more than a year to complete, it appears that Devara 2 may have been pushed to the back burner for now.

Changing audience preferences and evolving market dynamics surrounding high-budget sequels may also be contributing factors. Although Devara emerged as a commercial success, the film faced criticism over certain aspects of its narrative. Industry insiders believe the makers may be taking additional time either to strengthen the script for the second installment or to wait for a more favorable window before reviving the project.

As of now, there is no official confirmation suggesting that Devara 2 has been shelved. However, the current scenario indicates that the prestigious sequel could take considerably longer to materialize than fans had originally anticipated.
