Mahesh Babu, in collaboration with Asian Cinemas, expanded their successful multiplex brand AMB Cinemas from Hyderabad to Bengaluru with high expectations. While the Hyderabad property turned out to be a benchmark for premium cinema experiences, the Bengaluru venture is facing a completely different reality.

One of the major setbacks is its location in the Majestic area, which is known for heavy congestion, dense population, and an older city layout. Constant traffic issues and limited accessibility make it inconvenient for moviegoers, significantly affecting footfall. This stands in sharp contrast to the Hyderabad outlet, which benefited from a prime, upscale location that enhanced its appeal and overall brand perception.

Adding to the challenge is the lack of consistent big-ticket film releases. Without strong, crowd-pulling content, the theatre has struggled to attract steady audiences. As a result, occupancy rates have remained low for extended periods.

Meanwhile, the operational costs of running such a large multiplex remain high. With revenues failing to match expenses, the Bengaluru unit is reportedly running at a loss month after month, turning into a financial burden for the promoters.

For the venture to become sustainable, it will require a steady flow of major film releases for at least half the year to drive footfall and revenues. Otherwise, maintaining such a large-scale multiplex in this location may continue to put financial strain on its stakeholders.
