The makers of Deewana, starring young actor Harshith Reddy, are celebrating the film’s theatrical release, but director Srikanth Sangishetty has now grabbed attention with his emotional remarks about the negative publicity surrounding the movie. Speaking at the film’s thank-you meet, the debut filmmaker alleged that certain sections were deliberately trying to damage the film’s prospects. His comments have since gone viral on social media.

Produced by Vasudev Koppineni and Sridevi Karyampudi under the ARHA Media and V Studios banners, Deewana features Sneha Manimegalai as the female lead opposite Harshith Reddy. Released on June 20, the romantic drama has reportedly been receiving a positive response from audiences, prompting the team to organize a thank-you event.

Addressing the gathering, Srikanth said he could not understand why some people were trying to spread negativity about the film. “There’s a famous song that asks whether loving someone is a sin. In the same way, some people seem determined to kill Deewana. But no matter how hard they try, Deewana will continue to rise. To me, this story is even greater than the legendary tale of Salim and Anarkali,” he said.

The director also reiterated the confidence he had expressed at the film’s success meet, saying Telugu audiences have embraced the emotional core of the film. According to him, Deewana balances realism with commercial entertainment, and audiences have been applauding several emotional dialogues. He added that viewers are connecting deeply with the pain experienced by the lead characters, with many leaving theatres emotionally moved.

Srikanth further alleged that there are deliberate attempts to undermine Telugu cinema. He claimed that people unfamiliar with the language and its cultural roots were affecting films through censorship decisions, while some reviewers from Mumbai were unfairly portraying Telugu cinema in a negative light. Despite the criticism, he said he was proud of his work and confidently stated that Deewana is one of the finest love stories made in Telugu cinema over the past decade.

The film revolves around Munna, a carefree youngster who has completed his degree but spends his days depending on his parents and hanging out with friends instead of pursuing a career. His life changes after he falls in love with Amulya. However, she refuses to accept his proposal and challenges him to secure a government job before she considers his love.
