Suriya and RJ Balaji teamed up for the ambitious film Karuppu, which was released in Telugu under the title Veerabhadrudu. The movie emerged as a major box-office success during its theatrical run and turned out to be one of the biggest hits in Suriya’s career.

However, following its arrival on Prime Video, viewers have begun highlighting certain shortcomings that largely went unnoticed when the film was playing in theatres. One aspect that has particularly drawn criticism is the use of face-swapping VFX in several action sequences.

Many viewers feel the technique was unnecessarily used even in routine fight scenes, affecting the overall viewing experience. Social media users have been trolling the film over the visual effects, with some arguing that the excessive use of CGI diminished the impact of otherwise well-executed sequences.

Interestingly, these complaints were not as prominent during the film’s theatrical run, which worked in the movie’s favour. Industry observers believe that if such criticism had gained momentum earlier, it could have impacted the film’s box-office performance.

Karuppu revolves around a lawyer who becomes possessed by a deity and takes on injustice faced by marginalized communities. Apart from Suriya, the film also features Trisha and RJ Balaji in key roles. The movie was produced by SR Prabhu and SR Prakash Babu under the Dream Warrior Pictures banner.
