Family Man 2 Row: Tamil Nadu Govt wants a ban on series, writes to Centre!

After the trailer of the upcoming ‘The Family Man 2′ was dropped by the makers, it has created quite a buzz. Along with the buzz, the trailer has also kickstarted a controversy after Tamil people raised objections over the way Tamil Tigers were projected in the series.

Rubbing salt into the wounds, now the Tamil Nadu government has written to the Union Government seeking a ban on the series. In the letter, the state government opined that the struggle of the Eelam Tamils in Sri Lanka was distorted in the series.

In the letter shot to Centre, Tamil Nadu IT Minister T Mano Thangaraj said that the content in the series was condemnable and inappropriate in the manner and claimed that the trailer of the series had discredited Eelam Tamils’ struggle.

“I would like to state that the above serial has not only hurt the sentiments of Eelam Tamils but also the feelings of the people of Tamil Nadu in large-scale and if allowed to broadcast, it would be prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony in the state,” the IT Minister said.

The IT Minister even found fault with projecting actress Samantha, who speaks Tamil as a terrorist, and called this an attack on the pride of Tamil people across the world and said, no Tamilian would tolerate the series.

“While our brethren Eelam Tamils are struggling for decades to enjoy the fruits of equality, justice, peace and dignity in the island nation, it is highly unwarranted for an organisation like Amazon Prime to undertake this kind of a smear campaign against the Tamils who are builder of India as well as many nations across the globe,” he added in the letter.

Last year, Amazon Prime Video landed in controversy after the Tandav series attracted widespread criticism. A section of viewers and politicians accused the series of hurting religious sentiments of Hindus as Lord Shiva was reportedly projected in a bad light.
