The Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department officials arresting TDP MLC Ashok Babu did not go well with the opposition party. Raising severe objections to the arrest, the Telugu Desam Party leaders are alleging that the government is involved in a political vendetta.
From party chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu to former Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao, the TDP party is having a similar stand, which is to condemn the MLC arrest.
The list of TDP leaders who had condemned the arrest of MLC Ashok Babu is very big. Starting from party chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu to former Minister Nara Lokesh, MLA Kinjarapu Atchannaidu, former Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao, and a few others have condemned the arrest.
Not just condemning, a few leaders including Devineni Uma tried to meet Ashok Babu at the CID office in Guntur. When the cops said that they have no permission to meet Ashok Babu, an argument broke out between the two parties.
With the TDP leaders not leaving the place, the cops arrested them and shifted them to the nearby police station. Devineni Uma reached the CID office with a demand to meet Ashok Babu alleging that the cops might have used third degree on him.
Fearing that something might happen to Ashok Babu, the TDP leaders demanded that they want to see him. However, the CID officials said that they will not let them see Ashok as they have got no permission to do so. TDP leaders indulged in a war of words with the officials there and got arrested in the end.
Ashok Babu was arrested on Friday in the early hours by the AP CID officials in connection with an old case that holds Ashok Babu responsible for providing false information on his educational qualifications and also tampering with the records. A case was earlier filed under IPC sections 477A, 465, and 420.
The CID is probing the matter after the case was transferred to the special wing as per the instructions given by the Lokayukta hearing a petition that was filed by an employee who accused MLC Ashok Babu of providing fake educational qualification certificates.
