Prithviraj Hails Rajamouli’s Perfectionism on Varanasi Sets

The much-awaited action-adventure film Varanasi, directed by SS Rajamouli and starring Mahesh Babu, continues to generate massive buzz across the film industry. The ambitious project features Priyanka Chopra as the female lead, while Malayalam star Prithviraj Sukumaran is reportedly playing a powerful antagonist.
In a recent interview, Prithviraj opened up about Rajamouli’s work ethic, describing him as one of the most dedicated filmmakers he has ever worked with. The actor revealed that the director wastes no time on set and maintains an intense level of focus throughout the shooting process.
According to Prithviraj, Rajamouli approaches every film with the enthusiasm of a debut director. He is often the first person to arrive on set and the last to leave, setting an example for the entire cast and crew. The actor added that Rajamouli expects the same level of commitment and discipline from everyone involved in the project.
Highlighting the filmmaker’s pursuit of perfection, Prithviraj shared an interesting anecdote from the shoot. He revealed that an entire day was reportedly spent filming a single sequence involving Mahesh Babu, with numerous takes being attempted to achieve the desired result. Despite the scene turning out well, Rajamouli was said to be unsatisfied with certain aspects and decided to continue refining it rather than compromise on quality.
Rajamouli’s perfectionist approach is well known in the industry. Actors who worked on Baahubali and RRR have often spoken about the director’s relentless commitment to achieving cinematic excellence, regardless of the time and effort required.
Meanwhile, industry reports suggest that Varanasi could be released as a two-part franchise. Given the scale and scope of the story, there is speculation that the makers may choose an extended format to fully explore the narrative. However, no official confirmation has been made regarding a two-part release.
Although the story is said to be set against the backdrop of the sacred city of Varanasi, much of the filming is reportedly taking place in Hyderabad. The production team has recreated large-scale sets inspired by iconic locations from the historic city, including detailed temple structures designed to match the grandeur of the narrative.
Reports also indicate that the film will feature sequences spanning multiple timelines, requiring elaborate set designs and visual effects. The combination of Rajamouli’s vision, Mahesh Babu’s star power, Priyanka Chopra’s presence, and Prithviraj’s key role has already made Varanasi one of the most anticipated Indian films in production.
With its massive scale, ambitious storytelling, and high-profile cast, the project is expected to set new benchmarks at the box office whenever it finally arrives in theatres.
