Ram Gopal Varma Reacts to Ranveer–FWICE Controversy

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, known for his outspoken opinions on film industry matters, has now reacted to the ongoing Ranveer Singh–FWICE controversy linked to the actor’s reported exit from Don 3. The issue escalated after the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issued a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer Singh, alleging that he did not respond to multiple requests to appear before the body to discuss the matter, despite three reminders being sent.

The federation’s action came over a month after director Farhan Akhtar approached FWICE with a complaint regarding Ranveer’s exit from Don 3, claiming an alleged loss of around ₹45 crore during pre-production. The development has triggered widespread debate across the industry and social media.

Reacting strongly to the controversy, Ram Gopal Varma criticised FWICE and described its move as unnecessary and outdated. He stated that the so-called ban would eventually turn into a “big fat joke” on the federation. He argued that the union’s action appeared more like a display of influence rather than a fair process, calling it a “performative muscle-flexing exercise” by an outdated system struggling to maintain relevance.

Varma further added that FWICE does not function as a legal authority and compared its actions to a “kangaroo court,” claiming that decisions are often influenced by internal agendas rather than transparent procedures. He also argued that major stars like Ranveer Singh generate significant employment and revenue for the industry, stating that the ecosystem depends heavily on such actors.

In his remarks, he advised against interfering in what he described as a private dispute between two parties, suggesting that external bodies should avoid escalating the matter further.

Following the FWICE directive, Ranveer Singh responded through his spokesperson, choosing to maintain silence on the controversy. The statement emphasized that the actor holds deep respect for the Don franchise and the film industry, and has consciously refrained from engaging in public debate.

The spokesperson added that Ranveer believes professional matters should be handled with dignity and maturity, and that he continues to focus on his upcoming commitments. It was also stated that he prefers restraint and avoids contributing to speculation, while maintaining goodwill towards everyone involved.

The controversy has emerged at a time when Ranveer Singh is enjoying strong box office momentum, further intensifying attention on the ongoing dispute surrounding Don 3.
