Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi issued a strong warning to the United States, urging Washington to leave the Persian Gulf region if it wants to avoid further conflict.
In a post on X, Araghchi said Iran’s armed forces would respond decisively to any attack or threat. He argued that despite facing setbacks in recent confrontations, the United States was continuing to test Iran’s resolve and cautioned that history has repeatedly shown the consequences faced by foreign powers that intervened in the region.
The statement came shortly after the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that American forces had launched what it described as self-defence strikes against Iranian targets. According to CENTCOM, the operation was ordered as a proportional response following the reported downing of a US Army Apache helicopter.
US President Donald Trump earlier confirmed that an Apache helicopter operating near the Strait of Hormuz had been brought down in an Iranian attack. While both crew members were rescued safely and escaped without injuries, Trump stressed that the United States would respond to the incident.
CENTCOM stated that the military action began on Tuesday evening and was intended to counter what it called “unjustified Iranian aggression.” The development marks a significant escalation in tensions between the two countries.
The latest confrontation comes amid renewed instability across the region, with ongoing exchanges involving Iran and Israel, attacks on strategic infrastructure, and reports of military targets being struck on multiple fronts. As both Washington and Tehran harden their positions, concerns are growing over the possibility of a wider regional conflict.
