Jagan Pitches MAVIGUN Over Amaravati

The political debate over Andhra Pradesh’s capital is set to intensify after YSR Congress Party president and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy reiterated his support for the proposed MAVIGUN concept while positioning it against the NDA government’s commitment to Amaravati.

Addressing party supporters, Jagan declared that the capital issue would become a key electoral plank for the YSR Congress in the next Assembly elections.

“I am very clear about what I want. It is going to be Amaravati versus MAVIGUN. Those who want Amaravati will vote for Chandrababu and the TDP. Those who want MAVIGUN will vote for the YSR Congress,” Jagan said.

His remarks mark one of his strongest public endorsements of the MAVIGUN proposal, bringing the concept into the centre of Andhra Pradesh’s political discourse.

The ruling NDA government, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, has consistently reaffirmed its commitment to developing Amaravati as the state’s sole capital. Work on the capital city has resumed, with the government accelerating infrastructure projects.

The MAVIGUN proposal, which refers to the integrated development of the Machilipatnam-Vijayawada-Guntur region, comes after the YSRCP’s earlier three-capitals proposal failed to move forward due to legal and political hurdles.

With both sides now presenting contrasting visions for Andhra Pradesh’s future, the capital issue is expected to emerge as one of the defining themes in the run-up to the next Assembly elections. Whether voters back the continued development of Amaravati or support Jagan’s alternative vision remains to be seen.
