Kamal Haasan’s “Bharatiyadudu 2” Gears Up for Release in Telugu

Veteran actor Kamal Haasan is preparing to return to the Telugu screen with “Bharatiyadudu 2,” the sequel to the 1996 hit “Bharatiyadudu.” Haasan recently impressed Telugu audiences with his villainous role in “Kalki 2898AD,” marking a successful comeback for the actor in the region.

“Bharatiyadudu 2,” helmed by director Shankar, has generated positive buzz with its trailer. The film unit is currently engaged in promotional activities, having already secured theatrical distribution deals across all regions.

While the movie’s Telugu business has reached 20 crore, which is considered modest compared to Haasan’s usual box office pull, there is cautious optimism. This stems from the success of Haasan’s previous film, “Vikram,” and the long-awaited return of the “Bharatiyadudu” franchise after a 28-year hiatus. Fans remain confident that director Shankar will deliver a visually spectacular film.

The Hindi market hasn’t witnessed significant traction for “Bharatiyadudu 2.” However, the Telugu release promises a grand opening, particularly in Naizam and Uttarandhra regions controlled by Asian Movies, which owns a substantial number of theaters. N.V. Prasad will handle distribution in the ceded areas.

The film features Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, and Kajal Aggarwal in pivotal roles, alongside Kamal Haasan. The combination of Shankar’s direction, the legacy of the original film, and Haasan’s star power is expected to generate strong first-day collections. However, long-term success will hinge on positive word-of-mouth. Trade analysts suggest that the film needs to achieve a Telugu share collection of 21 crore to be considered a hit. All eyes are now on “Bharatiyadudu 2” to see how quickly it reaches this target.
