Lockdown fears despite Modi’s assurance

Despite categorical statements by both the Central and the state governments, buzz about lockdown being imposed from May 2 refuse to die down. Though the central government has said that it would not impose a lockdown, the social media is bustling with posts that are claiming that there would be a lockdown sooner than later.

The Centra has said that imposition of the lockdown is a matter that state governments should decide. It said that the state governments should take a decision based on the day-to-day situation. It has only issued some guidelines for the imposition of the lockdown. The Centre said that a mini lockdown could be considered by the state governments if there are at least 10 percent positive cases in the state. Similarly, lockdown can be considered if 60 per cent of the hospitalised cases require oxygen supply. There is a buzz in the political circles that the state governments might go in for a partial lockdown in the coming few days.

However, the state governments do not appear to be interested in imposing a complete lockdown. However, they are planning to impose some strict rules to prevent the spread of the virus. Sources said that a decision on this issue is expected within a week’s time.
