Renowned filmmaker S Shankar is set to witness another member of his family step into the limelight. After supporting daughter Aditi Shankar’s successful entry into acting, the celebrated director’s son, Arjith Shankar, is now reportedly preparing to make his acting debut.

According to buzz from Kollywood circles, Arjith will be introduced through a commercial entertainer directed by Ashok, a former associate of blockbuster filmmaker Atlee. Reports suggest that Atlee will bankroll the project, while Krithi Shetty has been roped in as the female lead. Though an official announcement is still awaited, the film has already generated considerable excitement, with its pooja ceremony reportedly taking place recently in Chennai.

Interestingly, Arjith’s decision to become an actor has come as a surprise to many. Having reportedly studied filmmaking in the United States, he was widely expected to follow his father’s path and take up direction. Instead, he has chosen to face the camera, sparking curiosity among film enthusiasts.

The development has also triggered debate on social media, with some netizens pointing out that Kollywood is increasingly embracing the star-kid launch culture often associated with Bollywood. Others, however, believe newcomers should be judged purely on their talent and screen presence rather than their family background.

Meanwhile, Atlee appears to be expanding his presence as a producer. Apart from being busy with the much-awaited Allu Arjun-starrer Raaka, reports indicate that he is planning several other projects, including one featuring Pradeep Ranganathan. With a high-profile launch and strong industry backing, all eyes are now on Arjith Shankar as he gears up to begin his cinematic journey.
