Mera Lyari Turns Major Box Office Disaster

Pakistani film Mera Lyari, which was widely promoted as the country’s response to the popular Dhurandhar franchise, has reportedly ended up as a major box-office disappointment.

Directed by Abu Aleeha, the film attempted to showcase a positive and inspiring side of Karachi’s Lyari region through a women’s football-based sports drama. The movie featured actors including Ayesha Omar, Dananeer Mobeen, Samia Mumtaz, and Trinette Lucas in prominent roles.

The film had attracted considerable attention before release because many viewed it as Pakistan’s cinematic response to Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar, which portrayed Lyari through themes of gang violence, terrorism, and crime. The Indian franchise stars actors such as Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, and Sara Arjun.

Adding to the buzz, the Sindh government had also openly supported the project. However, despite the political backing and media attention, Mera Lyari reportedly failed to draw audiences to theatres.

Reports claim that the film sold only around 22 tickets in certain locations, leading to extremely poor occupancy rates. Due to the lack of audience response and weak commercial performance, several theatres are said to have replaced the film with other releases within just a few days of its release.
