Modi’s retaliation begins: ED raids Channi’s nephew

Has Narendra Modi begun his game of retribution in Punjab? Has he started the process of hitting Punjab Chief Minister Charanjeet Channi were it hurts most? Modi government began Enforcement Directorate raids on the assets belonging to CM Channi’s nephew Bhupinder Singh Honey in connection with illegal mining cases. The raids were simultaneously conducted in 10 places in Punjab.

The raids began early in the morning when the ED sleuths knocked the doors of Bhupinder Singh Honey. The sleuths descended on 10 other locations belonging to Honey in various parts of Punjab. Honey is accused in cases pertaining to illegal sand quarrying. Many see this as Modi’s way of taking revenge on the Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, who is being blamed for ignoring Modi’s security during his recent visit to Punjab.

The Congress has said that the raids were nothing short of vendetta. The Congress said that the ED was trying to strike at the financial sources of the party at the time of elections. He termed the raids as political vendetta. The police, however, said that they were also probing into the political links of the firms involved in the illegal sand mining.

The AAP has complained about the illegal sand quarrying by Bhupinder Singh Honey. Based on the complaint, the ED has booked cases. As part of it the raids are being conducted in various parts of the state. The polling in Punjab would be held on February 20.
