Hollywood’s latest psychological horror thriller Obsession, created by YouTuber Curry Baker, continues its strong run at the USA box office. The film has emerged as a major box office phenomenon, reportedly grossing an impressive $290 million worldwide so far.
In India too, Obsession is performing exceptionally well and is now being viewed as a potential record-breaking release. When it comes to the most successful Hollywood horror films in India, the Conjuring franchise currently holds the top position. One of its installments, The Conjuring: The Last Rites, has earned around ₹82 crore gross in India, setting the benchmark for the genre.
However, Obsession has already collected approximately ₹70 crore in the Indian market and continues its steady run, raising speculation that it could eventually surpass The Conjuring’s record. With limited competition from major Indian releases at the moment, the film appears to have gained a significant advantage at the box office.
Recent local releases such as Ram Charan’s Peddi and Varun Dhawan’s Hai Jawaani Toh Ishq Hona Hai have not performed strongly, further allowing Obsession to maintain its momentum. As a result, the Hollywood thriller is enjoying a relatively open run across several regions.
The film is performing particularly well in multiplex chains across major cities like Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Delhi, where it continues to record strong occupancy for most shows. However, with more local films entering theatres soon, Obsession may face challenges in securing screens, especially in single-screen markets.
For now, the film’s theatrical run remains impressive, and it remains to be seen whether Obsession can continue its streak and create a new milestone in the Indian box office history.
