Sanjeev Megoti Reopens Varalaxmi Row
June 15, 2026

The controversy between actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and director Sanjeev Megoti has once again grabbed attention. What initially appeared to be a closed chapter after a public apology has resurfaced following the filmmaker’s latest comments. Interestingly, Sanjeev’s remarks seem to reflect more frustration over the film than any personal animosity.
The issue began ahead of the release of Police Complaint, starring Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and Naveen Chandra. Sanjeev had accused the actress of not actively participating in promotions and alleged that delays in dubbing had caused difficulties for the team, despite her receiving remuneration. His comments sparked widespread debate at the time.
Varalaxmi later responded by stating that she had always supported the film whenever required and had already attended several promotional events. Refusing to engage in a war of words, she indirectly hit back through an Instagram Story, writing, “Dogs that bark rarely bite. I don’t bark… I bite.” She later shared a video of Sanjeev apologising and added the caption, “Truth always wins.”
Reports suggested that the issue eventually reached the Telugu Producers Council, with senior industry members stepping in to broker peace between both sides.
However, Sanjeev Megoti has now reopened the discussion with fresh comments. He said that he did not believe he had committed a mistake serious enough to warrant an apology and insisted that his earlier remarks were driven purely by concern for the film. According to him, he apologised only after being advised by industry elders, who felt that the controversy could negatively affect Varalaxmi’s public image.
At the same time, the director had nothing but praise for Varalaxmi’s professionalism. He revealed that she was highly disciplined during the shoot and would often arrive on set ahead of schedule. He also recalled how the actress returned to work despite suffering a finger fracture and ignoring medical advice to take rest.
Sanjeev said he would never forget her dedication and commitment to the project. However, he admitted that he was disappointed that only his apology video was shared online. He felt that if Varalaxmi had also posted the positive comments he made about her, audiences would have understood that both sides had ultimately chosen to move forward for the sake of the film.
As things stand, the controversy appears to be less about personal differences and more about communication gaps. Despite the allegations and counter-allegations, the latest comments suggest that mutual respect still exists between Varalaxmi and Sanjeev, even if they continue to disagree on certain issues.
