Tom Cruise is once again making global headlines as reports suggest he has signed a new film titled Doppelganger. International media is widely circulating the news following his completion of a major chapter with the Mission: Impossible franchise.

The upcoming project is reportedly set to be directed by Aneesh Chaganty, a filmmaker of Telugu origin who made his feature directorial debut with the 2018 thriller Searching. Born into a Telugu family whose parents emigrated from Andhra Pradesh in 1980, Aneesh later gained recognition for his film Missing, which received strong global appreciation.

Doppelganger is said to be a high-concept spy thriller, marking a return to the genre Tom Cruise is most closely associated with. The actor has long been known for his work in espionage-driven films, particularly the Mission: Impossible series, including the latest installment The Final Reckoning.

In this new film, Tom Cruise is reportedly set to play a dual role. He will portray Veer, a CIA agent whose life takes a dramatic turn when he discovers that Russia has recruited a man who looks exactly like him. The adversary is allegedly intended to be used as a mole in a larger covert operation.

The film is being produced by Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler, Sev Ohanian, Aneesh Chaganty, and Natalie Qasabian, adding significant international backing to the project.

Meanwhile, Tom Cruise is also expected to appear in Digger later this year, though that project is not part of the spy genre.
