Pramila Dandavate, a former Member of Parliament from Mumbai, was among the earliest voices to demand 33% reservation for women in India.

During the 7th Lok Sabha in the early 1980s, she introduced a Private Member’s Bill proposing women’s reservation for the first time.

Later, in 1989, during the V.P. Singh government, she once again strongly advocated for 33% reservation for women in Parliament, making her one of the pioneering figures in this movement.
