Pulivendula Stronghold Debate: Jagan Faces Political Challenge

Share

Pulivendula and the broader Kadapa region have long been considered a stronghold of the YS family, a fact that has remained unchanged for decades. However, recent political developments suggest that this fortress has seen some cracks, with the NDA making inroads and the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) losing several key Assembly seats in the region.

Despite these shifts, Pulivendula continues to remain loyal to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, although his majority reportedly declined from around 90,000 votes in 2019 to nearly 60,000 in 2024. This has led to a growing political narrative being pushed by the JanaSena Party questioning his wider electoral strength beyond his traditional stronghold.

Adding fuel to the debate, Kakinada Rural MLA Pantham Nanaji challenged Jagan to contest from outside Pulivendula, specifically from Kakinada Rural, to test his political strength. He stated that if Jagan could win from a different constituency, it would be seen as a true reflection of his leadership, otherwise his influence would be seen as limited to his safe zone.

This statement quickly sparked a social media debate, with many users joining the discussion and challenging Jagan to step outside Pulivendula and prove his political reach across Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile, contemporary leaders like Nara Lokesh and Pawan Kalyan have already contested from constituencies outside their traditional base, such as Mangalagiri and Pithapuram, increasing pressure on other leaders to follow a similar path.

The issue also comes in the backdrop of comments made by Ambati Rambabu regarding Pawan Kalyan’s electoral strategies, which further intensified political exchanges between the parties. In response, JanaSena leaders raised counter-challenges directed at Jagan’s political standing outside Pulivendula.

However, the debate has also drawn criticism for the use of inappropriate language in political discourse, which many believe could have been avoided. Even Pawan Kalyan has previously expressed disapproval of such language in political discussions, emphasizing the need for more respectful exchanges among leaders.
