Russian President Vladimir Putin has reaffirmed the strength of India-Russia ties, describing the relationship between the two nations as “brotherly” and built on deep mutual trust. Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin praised India’s talent pool, particularly in technology and software development, while highlighting the enduring strategic partnership between the two countries.

“We have very good, trust-based and brotherly relations in every sense of the word,” Putin said. He also commended the capabilities of Indian professionals, noting that Indians have earned global recognition for their expertise, especially in coding, technology, and other advanced fields.

Discussing ongoing economic cooperation, Putin referred to recent global energy challenges and emphasized Russia’s commitment to supporting India during periods of uncertainty. He said both countries made the right decision by strengthening cooperation, particularly in areas related to energy supplies and technology sharing.

According to Putin, Russia has been increasing supplies to the Indian market and other Asian countries while continuing to share technological solutions with its partners. He stressed that Moscow remains committed to honoring its agreements regardless of changing political circumstances.

“Our cooperation with India is not influenced by the political environment,” Putin stated. “No one can dictate to Russia how to conduct its relations with India. We always fulfill our commitments, especially to trusted partners like India.”

The Russian President also highlighted the long-standing defense and military relationship between the two nations. He noted that a significant portion of India’s defense equipment has traditionally been sourced from Russia, a partnership that dates back to the Soviet era and continues to evolve through mutual trust and cooperation.

Putin emphasized that the relationship extends far beyond arms trade. He pointed to joint research and development projects, including the successful BrahMos missile program, as examples of the deep technological collaboration between Indian and Russian experts. He also noted India’s long history of procuring advanced aircraft and defense systems from Russia.

Commenting on India’s foreign policy approach, Putin described India as a sovereign nation that consistently makes decisions based on its own national interests. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and said India has demonstrated its ability to pursue an independent path in international affairs.

According to Putin, India carefully evaluates its partnerships and acquisitions based on factors such as technological relevance, practical utility, and value for money. He emphasized that India’s decisions are guided by national priorities rather than external pressure.

The remarks come at a time when India continues to maintain strategic relationships with multiple global powers while pursuing an independent foreign policy. Putin’s comments underscore the importance Russia places on its partnership with India across sectors ranging from defense and energy to technology and economic cooperation.
