Raavan Remanded in UAPA Case, Political Row Intensifies

YouTuber Raavan has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody after being arrested in a fifth case, this time under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The case alleges that he made comments supporting the banned Maoist organization and promoted Maoist ideology through his online content. Following the court’s order, he was shifted to Nellore Jail.

The arrest has triggered a political controversy in Andhra Pradesh, with the ruling alliance and the opposition trading allegations over the issue.

Leaders of the YSR Congress Party have questioned the action against Raavan and expressed support for him, arguing that the case is linked to his criticism of Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan. However, the ruling parties have maintained that the arrest is based on serious allegations related to the UAPA case and not merely because of his political remarks.

The controversy intensified after the ruling alliance highlighted several of Raavan’s past videos, alleging that they contained objectionable remarks about Hindu deities. They also claimed that the YouTuber, identified as Joseph, had changed his public name to “Raavan,” a charge that has become part of the ongoing political debate.

Meanwhile, senior YSR Congress leader Ambati Rambabu publicly expressed support for Raavan through social media and reiterated his stand during a press conference, further escalating the political confrontation between the two sides.

The episode has also revived discussions around previous controversies involving alleged attacks on Hindu religious symbols during the YSR Congress government’s tenure, including the widely discussed Ramatheertham temple idol vandalism case. Political leaders from the ruling alliance have linked the current controversy to those earlier incidents, while the YSR Congress has continued to defend its position.

With the investigation still underway, the case has evolved into both a legal matter and a politically sensitive issue, with further developments expected in the coming days.
