Suniel Narang Resignation Sparks Fresh Debate in Tollywood Circles

The resignation of Asian Group chief Suniel Narang from the post of Telangana Film Chamber president has sparked fresh discussions across Tollywood circles.

Many within the industry believe the move could be connected to the latest understanding reached between producers and exhibitors regarding the ongoing percentage system dispute.

The issue had gained major attention in recent weeks, especially ahead of Ram Charan’s upcoming film Peddi. Exhibitors had reportedly demanded either an interim percentage system or an increase in rental value until the Telugu Film Chamber committee submits its final report. Eventually, the Chamber agreed to the proposal.

Under the revised arrangement, exhibitors are now expected to receive an additional share from the increased ticket prices in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, apart from the fixed rental amount already being paid to them. Until now, the additional revenue generated through ticket price hikes largely benefited producers and distributors.

Industry insiders feel this change may not have gone down well with certain sections that were uncomfortable with altering the existing revenue-sharing structure.

Amid this backdrop, speculation quickly grew that Suniel Narang’s resignation could be linked to these recent developments, though no official confirmation has emerged regarding the same.

However, Narang later issued a statement on social media clarifying the reasons behind his decision.

In his note, he stated:

“I Suniel Narang President TFCC writing to formally notify the chamber dignitaries regarding my resignation. The reason is that we are pressured to take decisions to please few office bearers which I can’t do anymore and moreover my health is not supporting further.

The chamber should run on anonymous decisions which are not happening therefore please relieve me with immediate effect.

I am suggesting Sekar or Vijender to take charge immediately.”

Following his statement, industry observers feel that internal disagreements and ego clashes connected to the ongoing producers-exhibitors issue may also have played a role in his exit.

Suniel Narang continues to remain one of the most influential figures in Tollywood, with a strong presence across production, distribution, multiplex operations, and single-screen theatre businesses.
