Revanth Reddy’s Vizag Metro Remark Sparks Political Debate

Share

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, known for his outspoken and direct style of communication, once again sparked a political debate with his remarks on the Vizag Metro project.

While addressing the media on the proposed Hyderabad Metro expansion, he pointed out that the combined area of Jubilee Hills and Madhapur is larger than the entire city of Visakhapatnam, questioning why the Centre has approved the Vizag Metro while delaying the Hyderabad Metro extension.

His comments quickly went viral, drawing mixed reactions on social media. While some supported his criticism of the Centre’s decision-making, others felt that comparing Vizag with Hyderabad in this context was inappropriate and unnecessary.

Critics argued that the Chief Minister could have expressed his disappointment without bringing Andhra Pradesh’s Vizag into the discussion, especially at a time when political sensitivities between the two Telugu states are already high.

On social media, users also pointed out that Visakhapatnam’s Greater Municipal Corporation (GVMC) area is actually comparable to, or even larger than, Hyderabad’s GHMC limits, adding further fuel to the debate.

GVMC covers around ~681 sq km, while GHMC spans approximately ~650 sq km, with some users also highlighting the industrial expanse of the Vizag Steel Plant area.

Many observers believe Revanth Reddy’s intent was to highlight concerns over the delay in Hyderabad Metro expansion, but his choice of comparison has now become a talking point.

With existing political tensions between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana already heightened in recent weeks, especially after the Pawan Kalyan-related developments, the remarks have added further controversy to the ongoing debate.
