Kangana Salutes Nurses

Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut is gearing up for the release of her upcoming film Bharat Bhagya Vidhaata, which is set to hit theatres on June 12. Ahead of the film’s release, the actress spoke passionately about the challenges faced by nurses, emphasizing that they often do not receive the respect and recognition they deserve despite being the backbone of the healthcare system.
Inspired by the true story of the staff at Mumbai’s Cama Hospital during the 26/11 terror attacks, Bharat Bhagya Vidhaata shines a light on the unsung heroes of the medical profession. The film focuses on nurses, ward boys, and hospital workers who displayed extraordinary courage and dedication during the crisis. Kangana plays a staff nurse whose selfless service and compassion largely go unnoticed despite her crucial role in public welfare.
Speaking about the profession, Kangana noted that nurses perform some of the most demanding responsibilities in hospitals, yet their contributions are often overlooked. From caring for patients and maintaining hospital operations to assisting doctors and ensuring smooth day-to-day functioning, nurses shoulder immense responsibilities. She expressed hope that the film would encourage audiences to develop greater respect and appreciation for the profession.
The actress also shared her views on nursing uniforms, suggesting that they should be redesigned to better suit Indian conditions and the comfort of healthcare workers. According to her, many elements of the traditional nursing attire have roots in colonial-era influences and military-inspired dress codes. She believes uniforms should evolve to reflect the needs, preferences, and climate of modern India.
Kangana further highlighted the challenges faced by nurses, stating that they are often underpaid, overworked, and insufficiently acknowledged for their contributions. Through Bharat Bhagya Vidhaata, she hopes to bring attention to their sacrifices and inspire meaningful conversations about their role in society.
Discussing the film’s title, Kangana revealed that the phrase “Bharat Bhagya Vidhaata” was coined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2025. She explained that just as terms like “Divyangjan” and “Vishwakarma” were introduced to recognize different sections of society, the title is intended to honor the hardworking individuals who contribute significantly to the nation’s progress.
